We are pleased to announce that Randy Daub, P.E., has joined GTA to manage our new Beaver Falls, PA, location that will service the Pittsburgh metro area, western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and the West Virginia panhandle.

Mr. Daub, with over 25 years of experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, residential, and roadway projects, specializes in geotechnical engineering and construction observation and testing services. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with GTA, Randy is responsible for managing the Beaver Falls, PA, office while overseeing subsurface explorations and developing geotechnical recommendations for a wide variety of public and private projects requiring shallow and deep foundations, stormwater management facilities, earthwork and excavation, flexible and rigid pavement, groundwater and drainage, retaining walls, and slope stability. He is also responsible for geotechnical observations and third-party observation and testing services during construction.

Previously, Randy worked for PSI/Intertek, where during 23 years with the firm, he was a Branch Manager, Special Project Manager, and District Manager in northeast Ohio. Additionally, he worked for ms consultants, Inc. in their Youngstown, OH office performing geotechnical engineering services and bridge inspection for two years.

Randy received his MBA at Youngstown State University and his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University. He is a past president for American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Youngstown Branch and is a member of ASCE Akron-Canton Section and American Society of Highway Engineers, Cuyahoga Valley Section.

The Beaver Falls, PA, office will focus on providing geotechnical engineering and construction services for civil engineers, architects, owners and developers, public and private schools and universities, municipalities and counties, general contractors, and earthwork contractors. The office will also assist with GTA’s strong regional presence with oil and natural gas services, chemical stabilization of soils, and full depth reclamation.

We are pleased to announce that David J. Garbarino has joined GTA.

David was formerly the Northern MD Market President at Truist (BB&T) and served as the senior banker responsible for management and optimization of all commercial banking functions. Now working out of GTA’s headquarters in Abingdon, David is responsible for overseeing the financial, legal and HR functions of the firm while participating in future expansion initiatives and business development opportunities.

In addition to working for Truist for more than 20 years, David graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He is also a graduate of BB&T’s Leadership Development Program, and has attended ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

David is active in the local community, volunteering over the years for Junior Achievement, Kennedy Krieger Institute, and the Special Olympics. Current Board positions include Ex-Officio for the Kennedy Krieger Institute Corporate Board and the Miles & Stockbridge Advisory Board. Dave was selected as one of the Baltimore Business Journal’s 40 under 40 in 2013, and he was the 2019 Chimes Gala Honoree.

Rich Lake, LSRP, has been named a Vice President of GTA in our Quakertown, Pennsylvania office.

Rich has been with GTA for more than 12 years and has a total of 24 years of experience providing environmental consulting services. Working throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, Rich’s responsibilities include QA/QC reviews for GTA’s projects, managing soil and groundwater investigations; designing and implementing soil and groundwater remediation systems; supervising removal of underground storage tanks (USTs); evaluating vapor intrusion risk; and managing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and Phase II ESAs. Rich has worked on a range of projects from agricultural to industrial.

Rich earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Resource Management from Penn State University, in 1996. He is a State of New Jersey, Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP). Mr. Lake was a member of the committees that prepared the NJDEP Site Remediation Program Monitored Natural Attenuation Technical Guidance Document (March 2012) and Historically Applied Pesticide Technical Guidance Document (last revised December 2018). He is also on a committee preparing revisions to the NJDEP Remedial Action Permit guidance.

He is currently overseeing several large residential, commercial, and industrial projects in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

His mission will be to build upon the firm’s 35-year tradition of dedication to technical distinction while providing excellent client service experiences,” said retiring president Pat Klima, PE. After passionately and successfully leading GTA as president for the past 11 years, Pat is stepping into the next phase of his life, retirement.

Dave is a 20-year veteran of GTA, and has held several leadership positions including founder and Principal-In-Charge of GTA’s Quakertown, Pennsylvania office; Vice President for the past 17 years; and northern region Executive Vice President for the past two years.

Gautham S. Gautham is a licensed professional engineer in Florida and Texas with more than 15 years of geotechnical engineering and environmental consulting experience. He is particularly knowledgeable of the Orlando area market and geology and specializes in residential, commercial, warehouse, industrial, and infrastructure projects.

Most recently, Gautham worked for Universal Engineering Sciences in Orlando for over nine years as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, and was responsible for the successful completion of over 800 projects during this timeline. He received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from The University of Texas at Arlington, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering in Bangalore, India. Gautham is a member of GBA, ASCE, GOBA, and FES.

As a registered professional engineer in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee with more than 27 years of experience, John specializes in geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services. His extensive experience managing geotechnical aspects for residential, commercial, high-rise construction, land development, and transportation projects include shallow foundations, deep foundations, lateral earth pressures and retaining walls, slope stability, geosynthetic reinforced slopes, rigid and flexible pavements, earthwork, ground improvement, and foundation underpinning to name a few. John earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from UNC – Charlotte, and he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers, and NAIOP.

We are happy to announce the appointment of Shawn Sullivan to V.P.

Shawn joined GTA in 2015 as the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and Office Manager of our new Raleigh, NC location. He has been instrumental in growing the office and now serves as a Vice President of the firm.

Shawn is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina with 19 years of experience providing geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services for commercial and industrial facilities, low- and high-rise buildings, and single- and multi-family residential projects. He is particularly knowledgeable of the North Carolina Triangle and Triad area markets, geologic conditions, and associated challenges.

He has extensive experience in development of design recommendations for a wide variety of projects requiring shallow, intermediate, and deep foundations, stormwater management facilities, earthwork, rock excavation, flexible and rigid pavements, geologic studies, geophysical surveys, damage studies, groundwater and drainage, retaining walls, and slope stability. Additionally, Shawn has experience providing in-situ pressuremeter and dilatometer testing and data analysis; vibration blast monitoring, shear wave velocity testing, seismic refraction testing; and building services including property condition assessments. He is also proficient in laboratory testing following ASTM and AASHTO standards.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a Mathematics Minor from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is also a member of several professional and trade organizations including: American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Professional Engineers of NC (PENC), American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Geo-Institute, Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Shawn has completed the ACEC Future Leaders program, and Fundamental of Professional Practice program, while achieving first in class honors. He currently manages the GTA Raleigh operation, while assisting our team of Field Scientists, Project Managers, and Engineering Technicians, providing geotechnical, environmental, and construction testing services for a variety of healthcare, commercial, infrastructure, high-rise office, and residential projects.
